DNA methylation affects gene expression and can significantly influence the development and progression of cancers. For several cancer types, DNA methylation has proven to be a valuable biomarker, but a major limitation to its use for in vitro diagnostic purposes is the technical difficulty of measuring the methylation level. Until now, this has required pretreatment of the DNA, either chemically with bisulfite or enzymatically with methylation-sensitive DNases.
PentaBase has developed a novel method, EpiDirect®, that enables direct quantification of DNA methylation levels in untreated DNA.
